Tasting Notes

The 2011 Chateau Chalon was bottled in November 2018, and it's a very good, classical year of Chateau Chalon that is rounder and has less acidity than 2008, a vintage you can drink now or age in bottle. It's supple and has the textbook notes, volume and elegance one expects form it. 2011 was the last large harvest in Jura until 2018, and they managed to bottle 8,000 clavelins (the 620-milliliter bottle used for vin jaune from Jura), which makes them the largest independent/private producer of Chateau Chalon. 2011 delivered a large crop, but it was not a reaction to a short previous vintage in the way that 2018 was the natural reaction to 2017; they don't really know why it happened, and the year delivered quality and quantity.
